Kaspersky anti-phishing technology has detected more than 7 thousand phishing links in 2023 in the devices used by business organizations in Bangladesh. On Tuesday, the organization informed that between January and December of last year, a total of 7,262 financial phishing attempts were detected and blocked by various organizations in the country. These phishing links involve financial systems related to e-commerce, banking and payment systems, Kaspersky Solutions Bangladesh said.

In terms of phishing, scammers use phishing links to gain access to a user's device, account, or personal information. They can easily steal information through malware attacks by gaining the user's trust by impersonating different individuals or organizations.

These social engineering schemes are used as a kind of 'bait' or 'trap' to steal valuable information, which can be anything from social media logins, stealing all important and confidential information through a user's social security number, etc. These schemes can trap users by asking them to open a file, follow a link, fill out a form, or reply with personal information.

'Financial phishing' refers to financial fraud related to banking, payment systems and digital shops. Payment system phishing is a fake page impersonating a payment brand.

Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Kaspersky, said, “Phishing is a reliable and effective technique for cybercriminals to gain access to business networks. Generative AI has helped cybercriminals make phishing messages or scams more believable. This makes it very challenging to differentiate between a scam and a legitimate communication. This is why the role of robust security solutions is increasing.”

Yeo Siang Tiong added, “Cybercriminals often defraud employees of organizations through financial phishing scams, thereby compromising organizational security. Our recent research shows that these mistakes by employees can be just as damaging as outside hacking, especially for businesses in the Asia Pacific region. That is, human errors (human factors) can harm a business. Therefore, security tools can play an important role in handling such problems. But it is equally important to train and improve the skills of the employees as well as to strengthen the cyber security strength of the organization to detect cyber-attacks and take necessary actions.”

Kaspersky experts recommend using Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation for their advanced and professional C-level education on the importance of cyber security and how to deal with risks to protect the organization's systems from phishing attacks.

For example, the Kaspersky Assessments family of professional services identify security gaps in users' system configurations and design security architectures to provide IT protection that will work perfectly for a particular organization. Each step of this IT protection is based on the required security according to the budget of the organization.

Experts also recommend installing and using enterprise security solutions with anti-phishing software. Advanced anomaly control features of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business Advanced, Kaspersky Total Security for Business and Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Optimum help prevent user or scammer attacks.
